ActiveSync

ActiveSync (or synchronization) issues are rarely caused by hardware problems. Because the ActiveSync process involves much communication between device and computer, synchronization problems usually stem from connection blocking by firewall, incorrect settings, third-party software, or file corruption. These software issues can be solved at your desktop, rather than sending your device to us for repair.

Synchronization - Setup

  1. Is the computer able to detect your unit when plugged into the USB?

  2. Does the ActiveSync software start up and try to connect with the unit?

  3. Have you tried synchronizing the device with another computer? (If so, are you able to?)

  4. Does a soft reset resolve the issue?

  5. What is the operating system of your computer?

  6. Is there any firewall or anti-virus software in your computer that may stop the success of the ActiveSync?

Please note that this is for Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows Mobile 6 with Windows NT, 2000 and Windows XP.
For older models which run on Windows Mobile 2003 and 2003SE, bypass step number 4, as there is no option to delete partnership on device.

Synchronization - Rectify

With regards to your query above, you may want to try performing the below steps to rectify the ActiveSync issue:-

  1. Disable your firewall/antivirus program on your PC/Laptop (If any)

  2. Open the Active Sync program on the PC/Laptop. Click on File > Connection Settings and tick the box that says, "Allow USB connections"

  3. Delete the Active Sync partnership from the PC/Laptop (Open the Active Sync program > File > Delete Mobile Device) (If any)

  4. Delete the Active Sync partnership from the device (Start > Programs > Active Sync > Menu > Options > Delete) (If any)

    Note : For Windows Mobile 6 user, PIM data such as Contacts, Calendar, E-mail, Tasks, Notes, and Favorites will be removed from your device when you delete the sync connection settings between your PC and device ActiveSync.

  5. Supported Operating Systems:
    • Windows 2000 Service Pack 4;
    • Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1; Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 for Itanium-based Systems; Windows Server 2003, Standard x64 Edition;
    • Windows XP Media Center Edition; Windows XP Professional x64 Edition ;
      Windows XP Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2; Windows XP Tablet PC Edition

  6. If the issue persists, you may wish to uninstall the current version of ActiveSync and download ActiveSync 4.5 and monitor the situation

You can also use this option to change the USB functionality for ActiveSync 4.x as well as Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) to improve network compatibility.

Select ActiveSync (Normal mode) or Uncheck the Enable advanced network functionality to disable RNDIS and enable PPP. (Alternate ActiveSync connection for selected model using serial/normal mode)
  1. Xda Zinc WM5 and WM6 – Goto Setting > Connections > USB Setting > Select ActiveSync (Normal mode)

  2. Xda Atom Life WM5 and WM6 - Goto Setting > Connections > USB Setting > Select ActiveSync (Normal mode)

  3. Xda Flame WM5 - Goto Setting > Connections > USB to PC > Uncheck Enable advanced network functionality.

If you are still not able to synchronize successfully, you may also wish to try synchronizing with another computer and monitor on whether the synchronization is successful.
